Top Karetekas confirm in Karate 1-Premier League Tokyo

(IKKOSPORTS) - Tokyo is ready to welcome the last Karate 1-Premier League of the year, and a host of top karatekas have confirmed their participation in the closing event of the season of Karate’s first-class series of international competitions. With the upcoming World Championships fast approaching and the Grand Winners awards to be decided in Tokyo, the competition to be held in the capital city of the birth nation of the sport is set to be memorable. 

The magnificent Tokyo Budokan sports hall will host the best karatekas in the world in the anticipated clash for gold in the final tournament of the 2018 season of Karate 1-Premier League. Over 600 athletes from 70 countries have confirmed their participation at the event. Hosts of Japan will present the largest delegation with 63 competitors, followed by Italy with 41 athletes and France with 37 competitors. 

All the defending Grand Winners will take part in the 2018 Karate 1-Premier League Tokyo. The 12 current owners of the “Best of the best” award will have the last opportunity to wear the special karate-gi with the golden embroidery before the end of the Karate 1-Premier League season. World ranking leaders Sandra Sanchez of Spain, Serap Ozcelik of Turkey, Anzhelika Terliuga of Ukraine, Xiaoyan Yin of China, Ayumi Uekusa of Japan, Sadriddin Saymatov of Uzbekistan and Ryutaro Araga of Japan lead the list of Grand Winners on site.     

Since the Karate 1-Premier League Tokyo will be the last big event in senior competitions before the 2018 World Championships in Madrid, the defending world title-holders will also play a leading role in the Japanese city. All but one of the current World champions will travel to Tokyo for the event. The line-up of World title-holders on site will be spearheaded by local World champions Ryo Kiyuna, Kiyou Shimizu, Ayumi Uekusa and Ryutaro Araga. The two Kata aces and the two Kumite champions will lead the hopes of the always successful representatives of the host nation. 

The competition starts on Friday, October 12th at 09.00 (local time) with the first categories at stake. The event continues on Saturday, and the medal bouts will be held on Sunday. The last day of the event will be broadcast to a number of TV Networks around the world and will be streamed LIVE on WKF’s online platform, karateworld.tv.
